Odyesseus: my first hand made bicycle

Goals

  • Design and build a bike that knocks the socks off a commercially available bike of the same cost
  • Enable commuting, gravel riding, and long distance touring in a durable and comfortable package
  • Submit the bike as my final project for Dr. Fabijanic's Singletrack Vehicle Design class

Methods

  • The bike is made of 4130 chromoly steel tubing
  • Tubes were mitered on a manual mill
  • Coped tubes were arranged in a frame jig and joined with silicon bronze brazing
  • The finished frame was sprayed with automotive paint

Results

  • It rocks
