Electric Motorcycle Prototype

While working as an intern at Calfee Design in Santa Cruz California, I assisted with the design and fabrication of a low cost electric motorcycle and other experimental vehicles.

Goals

  • Create a prototype of an electric scooter that meets the requirements of the client
  • Validate that the scooter can be sold for $3000 or less in the developing world

Methods

  • Fabricated parts with TIG Welder, 3D printer, manual lathe, CNC mill, and other machine shop tools
  • Soldered electrical components

Results

  • Two prototypes were completed in 10 weeks and sent to Kenya and Ghana for testing
Cargo rack welded during my first 2 weeks at Calfee Design
Rolling the bikes outside for off-road testing
